Meeting tonight & Bus Route Review

The Bus Society is having a special meeting tonight at 7pm at the School office. We will be getting an update on the bus driver for next year, setting dates for upcoming meetings and much more. Please attend if you can make it.

We are currently reviewing the bus route for 2019. If you want to make any changes to the route (e.g. you are new to the bus, or you want to change your drop-off point), please contact Hayden Tapper on 027 837 5814. The current bus route is available for viewing here.

Urgent notice – Bus Meeting

The Pukekohe Bus Society urges all members to come to the meeting tomorrow night, 7pm at the school office. The Bus Society needs to find a new bus driver to start next year, or the service will need to be cancelled. We require your support in finding a driver, so please come along to the meeting.

If you are unable to attend, but know of any candidates for driver, please contact our Chairman Niko Kloeten on 0273399681 or email

Bus driver wanted!

The Pukekohe East School bus is looking for a new full-time driver to start next year. Bus Society Chairman Niko Kloeten says that bus driving experience and a current Passenger Endorsement Licence is preferred, but the Society is willing to pay for training for the right candidate.

“This is not an ordinary bus driving job. It’s about more than going round the bus route twice a day; you become a part of the school and the wider Pukekohe East community,” he says.

“It takes skill and patience to drive some of these rural roads, but the kids will put a smile on your face.”

The role is for school terms only and that there are additional school trips during the day. Extra charters are available on evenings and weekends if wanted.

Current driver Wallace Bremner, who is stepping down at the end of the year to pursue other interests, says the job is challenging and hugely rewarding.

For more information or to apply for the role, contact Niko Kloeten on 027 339 9681 or email

Quiz Night raises $9,000

The Pukekohe East School Bus Society’s latest Quiz Night has been a resounding success, raising more than $9000 for the school’s bus service.

The annual event took place this past Saturday, June 30 at the Pukekohe East Community Hall. New Zealand Herald sports journalist Andrew Alderson was the quiz master, with Bayleys national auctioneer Richard Valintine calling the auctions.

Bus Society Chairman Niko Kloeten says the Quiz Night was both an enjoyable evening and a great fundraiser, with more than 100 people attending.

“Thank you to all of our committee members and other volunteers who helped out before, during and after the Quiz Night. We also owe a big thank-you to Andrew as quiz master and Richard as auctioneer, and to Tim Gregory for providing the quiz questions and AV equipment.

Finally, I wish to thank all the businesses, families and individuals in our community who supported the Bus Society by donating goods and services to be auctioned. Our school bus is a valuable asset to the school and wider community, and their support plays a big part in keeping it going.”

The Bus Society wishes to thank the following donors: Hampton Downs, Kingstons Partners, Stihl Pukekohe, the Vink Family, The Pilates Room, Waterslide, Mania/Harrex family, Barfoot & Thompson (Brendon and Louise Moore), The Difference Catering, Laminex, Samone’s Cooking School, Mitre 10 Pukekohe, Harleh Laser Clinic, LaValla Estate, Balance Your Life, Chloe Cooper, Tan Box, The Good Home, Maxwell’s Golf, Bauer Media, Valentines, the Evans Family, Counties Fitness, Noel Leeming, the Wharfe Family/Franklin Country Meats and the Tapper family.
